Sondra’s Easy Homemade Granola (Kid-friendly!)

This easy homemade granola recipe is Sondra’s favorite. She and her kids love making it together! What makes this her go-to granola? This recipe doesn’t depend on precision measurements like breads or other baking can. Instead, it uses every good home cook’s secret skill—measuring ingredients like vanilla, almond extract, and nuts with your heart!

Made from a base of sprouted rolled oats and wholesome staples, this healthy homemade granola recipe is an open door to improvisation.

When she makes this easy homemade granola for her kids, Sondra leaves out the nuts entirely. That way her youngest can enjoy a safe, toddler- and kid-friendly granola that serves up crunchy fun by the spoonful (or snackable fistful!)—without having to wait until they’re ready to navigate hard nuts and grown-up flavors.

But you don’t have to have kids at home to appreciate all this recipe has to offer.

While most granolas feature a variety of nuts and seeds to build sophisticated layers of texture in every bite, this basic recipe offers a gentler, more nuanced welcome into the world of granola.

Starting with simple flavorings like vanilla, almond extract, and maple syrup means you can make this a subtle beginner’s welcome into the world of granola—or dial up the flavor (and texture) to your own just-right volume.

Skip the nuts entirely. Or leave your measuring cup on the counter and throw in as many as you like! (Use just one nut you love, or a mix of whatever you have in your pantry!)

However you make yours, serve this granola with your favorite plant-based milk or yogurt as a delicious healthy breakfast. Enjoy as a satisfying snack. Or serve with any meal for extra crunch!

Ingredients

7 cups One Degree Organics Sprouted Rolled Oats
1 cup coconut shreds
1 cup nuts (more or less depending on how many you like in there), optional
1 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla (or more to taste)
1 1/2 tsp almond extract (or more to taste)
1/3 cup olive oil
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup water (approximate)

Directions

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F. Prepare a parchment lined cookie sheet and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, stir together all dry ingredients.

In a smaller bowl, mix wet ingredients (vanilla, almond extract, oil, maple syrup, and water).

Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix well until oats and dry ingredients are evenly coated.

Bake for 1 to 1 ½ hours, stirring once or twice while it bakes.

Let cool, then crumble into bite-sized pieces. Store in an air-tight container.
