Hemp, Flax and Sunflower Seed Spread

This recipe uses three of our favorite seeds — hemp, flax and sunflower seeds. It is packed with nutrition, and best of all it tastes delicious! All three of these seeds have extraordinary health benefits.

Hemp contains all 10 essential amino acids and is easy for your body to digest and assimilate. Just two tablespoons of hemp hearts contain 7 grams of protein. Hemp helps fight inflammation, improve heart health, reduce muscle cramps, balance hormones, and improve immunity.

Flax is rich in both soluble and insoluble fiber. It is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, and among numerous other health benefits it is championed as a help to heart and immune health. Flax is high in lignans, which is recommended especially to women because of its anti-cancer effects.

Sunflower seeds are also especially rich in protein, minerals and essential fatty acids. Only 100 grams of sunflower seeds provide about 21 grams of protein. They are a good source of the B-complex group of vitamins such as niacin, folic acid, thiamin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid, and riboflavin.

We are often told to limit our intake of nuts and seeds, but the healthy fats in seeds and nuts aid in the absorption of nutrients when eaten with vegetables. Countless studies have shown not only their high levels of nutrition and abundant trace minerals, but also their benefits on cardiovascular heath, weight management and diabetes prevention.

This recipe gives you a great way to get all those benefits! I like eating this spread on bread, crackers or wraps.
