Food Integrity and Our Long Term Health
I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by. Between all the exciting projects and new developments happening at One Degree, life has felt especially full lately. It’s also been a good reminder of just how important it is to take care of ourselves regardless of how busy we get.
For me, eating well has always been the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. It’s what helps me stay energized, grounded, and ready to keep up with everything each day brings.
Over time, I’ve come to really appreciate how important it is to take care of our health. It’s easy to overlook the impact of our daily choices when we’re feeling good and life feels busy. But what we eat and how we care for ourselves truly matters, and those choices add up in meaningful ways. I’ve learned that our health is an ongoing journey – one where we’re constantly discovering what works best for us.

What it means to be healthy
For me, one of the biggest shifts has been becoming more curious about where my food comes from. What I choose to put in my body needs to be clean and grown organically without pesticides, and that is why I am more interested in the ingredient list rather than the packaging design or claims. Knowing how food is grown, and who grows it gives me confidence that I’m making choices that support both my family’s health and the health of the land.
This gives me peace of mind and empowers me to choose foods that are grown with care, rather than sprayed with chemicals or produced without regard for nutrition or health. When we understand where our food comes from, we can confidently opt for choices that are safe for our family. That’s what being healthy truly means: making informed, intentional food choices.

Being more curious about the food we eat
Years ago, as I learned more about modern food systems, I realized how disconnected many of us had become from our food. Previous generations often grew their own food or knew the farmers personally. There was a natural trust in what they ate.
Rather than feel discouraged by that disconnect, we decided to do something about it. That decision ultimately led to the creation of One Degree Organics. From the beginning, our focus has been simple: transparency. If families are going to trust the food they bring home, they deserve to know exactly where it comes from and how it was grown.
Curiosity about food deepens our appreciation for every ingredient that makes its way to the table. It also empowers us to make better food choices- to look beyond claims and understand the real story behind what we’re eating. Food doesn’t grow overnight. From seed to harvest, our oats take months to grow before they are cleaned, tested, and verified for safety and quality. Our bergamot partners shared that it takes nearly one hundred citrus rinds to produce a single drop of oil. These details may seem small, but they reflect the care and intention behind each ingredient.
Growing food organically is truly a labor of love. It demands passion, dedication, and resilience. If you’ve ever tended your own garden, you know this firsthand. Visiting farms over the years and meeting both new and long-standing farmer partners, has shown me the extraordinary effort involved in producing clean and honest ingredients- the kind we’re proud to bring to your table.

The value of organic food
Does organic food cost more? Yes, but when you consider the hidden costs of conventional farming, the investment in organic becomes clearer. Chemicals may offer shortcuts, but at what expense? Understanding the care and effort behind each harvest often reveals why choosing organic is worth it.
During a visit to Klondyke Farms, we met Marcus and his family and heard from them directly the negative effects conventional farming had on their personal health and the health of their soil. We saw firsthand the commitment and dedication required to farm organically and today, their land is healthier and more resilient – a reflection of the long-term care they put into the soil and crops. These are the kinds of farmers we are proud to work with and we are honored to bring their stories to you through the QR codes on our products, so you can trace your food back to the source and meet the people behind every ingredient.

Making mindful food choices
At One Degree, we believe in the deep connection between healthy soil, healthy food, and healthy people. For me, this healthy connection between soil health and personal health is what being mindful about our food choices means. It’s not just about personal habits or trends. It’s about choosing food grown with integrity, supporting farmers who care for the soil, and staying connected to where our ingredients come from.
Over time, those small, intentional decisions build a foundation for long-term health- for ourselves, our families, and future generations. When we understand the story behind our food, we don’t just eat better. We live better.
