Our Field Day Experience At River’s Edge Organics

For over a decade, Eldon Kebernik has been one of our trusted organic oat farmers, supplying us with the clean, high-quality grains that go into your favorite One Degree products . Eldon, who’s farm River’s Edge Organics is based in Barrhead, Alberta was one of our very first farmer partners. From the very start, Eldon has believed in One Degree’s mission, and we are proud to still call him a partner today.

A few years ago, our family had the pleasure of visiting Eldon and his son at their farm to hear their story firsthand. If you love our Sprouted Rolled Oats, you might recognize Eldon—his photo proudly graces our packaging, connecting you directly to the farmer behind your breakfast.

Alonna & Kathy’s first visit to Eldon’s farm in 2016 where they also met Eldon’s son Brad

Eldon and his son Brad are passionate advocates of organic farming. Eldon began farming in 1978, taking over from his parents and has been an organic farmer since 1996. He plans on passing down River’s Edge Organics to his son Brad someday. This year, Eldon hosted a Field Day on his farm—a special event where farmers and growers come together to share knowledge, ask questions, and strengthen the organic farming community. We were honoured when Eldon invited One Degree Organics to join and take part in this wonderful event, which hosted over 60 attendees from the local organic farming community.

From the hotel where the Smith family was staying, it was a 1.5-hour drive to Eldon’s farm in Barrhead. The family arrived first thing in the morning and as always, were in awe of Alberta’s lush fields and rolling prairies, which produce some of the best oats in the world. Our oat farmer Eldon, and the organic farming community in attendance greeted and welcomed the Smith’s with warm hospitality.

When you are as passionate about clean food and knowing how it is grown as we are at One Degree Organics, there is nothing more valuable than getting out into the field with experienced farmers like the ones we met during our visit.

A field day allows farmers the opportunity to connect, learn from one another, and explore new methods of farming. For us, however, this field day provided a chance to walk the fields where our oats are grown, ask questions directly to the farmers, witness this community innovate and collaborate, and understand the challenges and opportunities these farmers face firsthand.

Events like these provide farming communities the opportunity to have real first-hand discussions with their peers about the common experiences and challenges that come with organic farming. It is also a great time for the community to connect and catch up and take some time off away from work to enjoy each other’s company.

There were many meaningful interactions between the farmers in attendance from overhearing conversations about equipment to swapping stories on how to manage the challenges of organic farming.

This trip to Eldon’s farm was a wholesome experience filled with a great and unique atmosphere. It’s events like this that open our eyes to the dedication of organic farmers and the effort that goes into growing clean and healthy food. Everyone deserves food that is safe to eat and grown the right way, and these farmers are sowing the seeds of change to ensure that.

Stan sharing the mission behind One Degree Organics (2025)

Stan was grateful to have the opportunity to share the story and mission behind One Degree Organics. Our journey is made possible because of the dedicated farmers who grow each ingredient with care. Meeting these passionate individuals and telling them about One Degree Organics was a highlight for Alonna, Kathy, and Stan.

Leaving Alberta, we felt inspired and more committed than ever to supporting organic farming. Here are a few things we took with us:

  • A deeper appreciation for the work and care that go into growing the oats that go into each One Degree Organics product.
  • A renewed sense of responsibility to support farmers in meaningful ways and tell their stories
  • An immense amount of gratitude to this organic farming community for being allowed to take part in the event and share the mission behind One Degree Organics

It was a perfect day out on the fields at River’s Edge Organics

Farmers are the backbone of our brand, and our commitment to 100% transparency makes One Degree Organics unique. We believe you deserve to know where your food comes from and who grows it. That’s why we partner directly with family farmers, share their stories, and put a face to every ingredient we source. When you choose One Degree Organics, you’re not just nourishing your family—you’re supporting a community built on trust, integrity, and a shared vision for a healthier food system.

When we understand the journey from seed to shelf, we make better food choices and oftentimes healthier ones too. It’s communities like these and brands like One Degree that aim to bridge the gap between farm and table, not only for your health but for the health of your family and the planet.

We were truly lucky and honoured to have attended this year’s Field Day in Alberta and hope to share more of these amazing moments and trips with you in the future.
