Organic Oats

Brad & Rebecca Rabiey

At One Degree Organics, we believe the stories behind our ingredients are just as important as the ingredients themselves. That’s why we’re excited to share the inspiring journey of Brad Rabiey, our dedicated organic oat farmer based in Alberta.

Family - Behind Canadian Grown Oats

Alongside his wife, Rebecca, their two children, and his father—who taught him the values of farming on the same land—Brad’s commitment to organic shines through in the quality of his crops.

During our recent visit to Brad’s family farm, we walked through fields filled with lush brown crops and soaked in the rich history. Brad was proud to share his excitement about supplying One Degree with high-quality, glyphosate-free oats and seeing his story on our packaging.

Transitioning from conventional to organic farming for Brad and his dad was no small feat. Brad clearly remembers working with his dad on their family farm before transitioning to organic practices. They noticed a visible decline in crop quality due to the use of conventional farming methods. With a background in biological science, Brad began to question traditional farming methods.

Brad and his father noticed the telltale signs that their soil was losing nutrients, which prompted Brad to explore creative solutions. His research led him to organic farming—a choice that not only improved the crop health but also helped to restore the soil nutrients of their farm.

Today, Brad’s farm is completely organic, and visiting his family farm coupled with a welcoming lunch of homemade soup, reminded us of the vital connection between the families behind our ingredients and the importance of their stories.

Family - Behind Canadian Grown Oats

Brad grows oats, peas, and faba beans, and employs innovative plow-down practices on his farm. Plow downs involve planting crops like buckwheat and faba beans as cover crops; after a short growing period, these plants are tilled back into the soil.

This enriches and improves the soil quality and ensures the health of future crops. Brad is dedicated to organic farming, even though farming organic requires hundreds more hours of work per acre.

His dedication to the organic approach stems from a deep-rooted passion for growing food that he is proud to serve his family. Despite good-natured teasing from his dad about embracing organic farming and how much work it is, Brad stands firm in his decision. He envisions a future where healthy, nutrient-dense food is available for every family to enjoy.

Many people often ask about the secret to our delicious oats, and the answer is simple: it’s the dedication of organic farmers like Brad, who cultivate clean, safe, and nutrient-rich grains. His unwavering commitment ensures that every bowl of oats is not only delicious but also grown with care for the earth and your family.

We cherish every opportunity to connect with our farmers and share their stories. It brings us joy knowing that you can experience peace of mind with every ingredient in your One Degree Organics products.
