This time of year everything is loaded with sugars and fats, but this dessert gives you a healthy treat with whole sprouted grains and healthy sugars. The perfect treat to eat while enjoying a good book and a cup of hot tea.
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup coconut palm sugar
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups One Degree Organics Quick Oats
1 1/2 cups One Degree Organics Sprouted Spelt Flour
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1 Tbsp water
1 batch of date filling
4 cups water
4 cups dates
1/2 tsp almond flavoring
Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Lightly grease a 9 x 9 baking pan.
Cream coconut oil and coconut sugar together. Stir in dry ingredients and add water. Mix until crumbly.
To make date filling: Place dates and water in sauce pan. Stirring often, cook over medium heat with lid on until it reaches the consistency of jam. Add more water if needed. Set aside.
Firmly pack 1/2 of the crumbly mixture into prepared baking dish. Spread with date filling. Top with remaining crumbs.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Let cool before cutting into bars.
